Newly discovered and rather unusual crystals that were found in the foothills of the world’s second highest mountain in the Karakoram Mountain range. This mountain known as K2. Mount K2 and Mount Godwin Austen, is located between Pakistan and China. K2 stones are considered high vibration and powerful stones. They are also known as “K2 Granite” and “K2 Jasper” even though they definitely aren’t jasper.
The K2 stone is made up of different minerals, none of which have been specifically determined. Many believe that it is granite, which is composed primarily of quartz, feldspars (aluminum, silica, sodium, potassium and calcium) and some hornblende and biotite (mica).

K2 is often recognized by its eye catching blue and green spots in a mottled matrix. The green and blue spots are believed to be either afghanite (a hydrous, sodium, calcium, potassium, sulfate, chloride, aluminum silicate mineral) or azurite and malachite (copper carbonate minerals).

When examined with a magnifying lens, one can see the cleavage of the feldspar minerals and black flakes of biotite. Also, one is able to see that the blue and green spots are actually spherical shaped when viewed up close.
Since feldspars have a hardness of about 6, K2 stones are fairly durable in jewelry.
